The Wonderful Story of Jesus

Part2

Thank you for joining me today by reading this article on how “Wonderful the Story of Jesus is.”  I started last week with the text from the book of the prophet Isaiah 9:6.  So let’s go ahead and read this prophecy that was given by the Holy Spirit over 700 years before the birth of Jesus Christ.

Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called “Wonderful…”

Let’s read again the Scriptures on the wonderful announcement of the birth of our savior.

Luke 1:26, 27, 30, 31
26 And in the sixth month THE ANGEL GABRIEL WAS SENT FROM GOD unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth.
27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.
30 And THE ANGEL SAID UNTO HER, Fear not Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shall call his name Jesus.

The very announcement that Jesus was to be born was wonderful; and angel came down from Heaven to proclaim it. But how was this conception was going to take place? How was it possible that a virgin would conceive and bring forth a son?  Notice what the angel said.

Luke 1:35
35 And, the angel answered … THE HOLY GHOST SHALL COME UPON THEE, AND THE POWER OF THE HIGHEST SHALL  OVERSHADOW THEE: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

The Holy Ghost came upon Mary, and the power of the Highest overshadowed her.  That’s how she came to bear the Holy Child that would be called the Son of God.  So you can readily see how “Wonderful” Jesus’ conception was!

Luke 2:8-11
8 And there were in the same country (near Bethlehem) shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, BEHOLD, I BRING YOU GOOD
TIDINGS OF GREAT JOY, WHICH SHALL BE TO ALL PEOPLE.
11 FOR UNTO YOU IS BORN THIS DAY IN THE CITY OF DAVID A SAVIOUR, WHICH IS CHRIST THE LORD.

Not only did an angel appear unto the Shepherds to proclaim that a Saviour has been born, but the glory of the Lord shone all around them (the same glory that was manifested in the Old Testament as a cloud and sometimes as a bright shinning light).  Then the multitude of angels appeared, praising God.  So the announcement made at Jesus’ birth was “Wonderful.”
I am excited about the Wonderful Story of Jesus.  It gives me goose bumps just to think about it.  Merry Christmas to you, and we will continue this Wonderful story.

Word for Today: Press On

We’re living in an age in which fear, anxiety, and pressure are moment-by-moment realities for many people.  However, the good news is, it is possible to live each day with something the Bible calls “Peace!” In John 20: 21 Jesus said “Peace be unto you.”  Paul said in the Book of Philippians “The peace of God which passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts…”
